yuki onna

[Yuki Onna (Japanese) was a beautiful demon of the snow. She stole the life-breath of those unlucky enough to be caught in a snowstorm. One night, she came upon an old woodcutter and his young apprentice, who were caught in a blizzard. She killed the old woodcutter, but felt pity for the younger boy. ÒI will not kill you if you promise never to tell anyone what you have seen tonightÓ, she told him. When the young apprentice was older, he married a beautiful, orphaned woman. After they had spent many wonderful years together, he told her of that strange night, believing it to be a dream. Yuki Onna flew into a rage and left him, sparing his life only for the sake of their two children.] X

XXX I knew you when you were frozen
I knew you when you were cold
I was moved by your beauty
I let you grow old

I knew you when you were frightened
I knew you in your grief
I let you breathe

you said you'd keep your promise
you said you'd never tell
I came out of nowhere
but you thought you knew me so well

(I remember running with you. It was always warm, and you'd hold me in your arms)

your faith has left me cold
I was the one you told
that day was long ago
now you will be alone

(my tears are ice drops. my breath was warmed by your touch. my freezing sleep is death. I showed you too much)
